The 152nd anniversary of the insurrectional uprising led by Gabriel García Menocal on February 10,
1869 was commemorated this morning in the gardens of the Catholic Church, a place that had been converted
into the Captaincy of the Spanish Army when the town was taken by the conspirators. The troops with the
national flag at the fore, escorted by Narciso Deop, arrived at that place. The flagpole with the Spanish
flag was knocked down and the flag of the lone star was raised at the top of the parish. At the event
attended by a representation of the Jagueyense people, the national flag was raised and the historical
event was remembered. The Jagüey Grande uprising on February 10, 1869 was the fourth in all of Cuba and
the only one recorded in the West at the beginning of the Ten Years' War.
